So this is the first post of Review March (I’m working on a better name I promise!) Who is just as excited about this as I am?
Probably no one, except maybe my Mum!
This isn’t going to be entirely make up reviews but as a make up obsessive; I can’t think of a better way to start than with one of my favourite products; Maybelline’s Colour Sensational Lipstick – my favourite shade is 547 – Pleasure Me Red
I bought this from Superdrug – but it’s available in most drugstores/make up retailers.
I spoke recently about how lipstick has recently become a new addition to my make up bag – Let me explain;
This may just be me (please tell me otherwise) but I somehow felt like lipstick was too grown up for me to wear every day – something that people my Mum’s age saw as a staple, something that I wasn’t old enough to wear. Even now, I feel like if I wear lipstick I shouldn’t wear too much other make up so I don’t look too made up.
It’s probably just me being strange. However, after seeing many a beauty blogger going crazy for all the lip trends lately, and you know the impending feeling of being old, I decided to try it out. And I LOVE it.
So let me tell you about Color Sensational from Maybelline…
This may seem a strange part of a review…BUT
I went into my local Debenhams and asked for a lippy that wasn’t going to clash with my bright red hair, and that would actually last all day. And this is the one the lovely lady there recommended, despite the fact that they didn’t actually sell it in that store. I feel like this has to say a lot for the brand. I asked an honest question and I got an honest response.
Color – (I would normally say ‘Colour’ but online it’s called Color Sensational so I can’t really argue…)
I find with most lipsticks that the color which is printed on the label, or shown in the ads, etc; is not the shade that you actually get. Yet with this one it’s pretty much spot on! There wasn’t a huge range of colours to begin with but it seems that there have been more released since but that could just be an anomaly on the Superdrug website?
Pleasure Me Red is a gorgeous bright shade, great for making a statement at night, but also perfect with a darker eye for a night out. And who doesn’t love an all-rounder?
A few other lipsticks I’ve tried recently (I’m not going to name names right now, because, well it’s review month so we’ll get to them later) have had really bad staying power – but this one is pretty good. I’m not going to tell any lies and say that you can apply it in the morning and it will still be there when you get home at night. But at the same time, from someone who likes to eat and drink and generally touch my face the staying power on this is really pretty impressive! But at the same time, when you do get home, getting it iff your lips is pretty easy too. A quick swipe of a face wipe and it’s gone. I am pretty much holding out for the day that ALL make up has staying power in general but is easy to remove, so I’m pretty happy with that!
In winter we all struggle against the power of the wind,
and once again not naming a names I’ve tried some lipsticks which dry your lips out just as much as the wind does. I can’t say that this lipstick is particularly moisturising, it doesn’t make your lips softer. But at the same time it doesn’t dry them out either. So all in all, I can’t complain. Maybe in summer it would keep your lips soft? To be honest, as long as it isn’t making them chapped – which obviously makes the colour look bad just in general – I’m pretty happy.
Overall, I think this is one of the best lipsticks that I have tried, it’s got great colour, pretty good longevity, and it doesn’t make your lips all dry. All in all everything I could hope for from a lippy!
I’m really looking forward to buying the shades Summer Pink (148) and Pink Brown (620) so I’ll be sure to let you know what I think of those!
Let me know if you agree/disagree with my opinions of this, or if you know of something that’s better. And I hope you’re looking forward to the next review of Review March just as much as I am!
